2205 Duplex Stainless Steel Pipe for a UAE Desalination Project

For a desalination-related piping requirement, Shangyou coordinated the supply of 2205 duplex stainless steel pipe with attention to grade identity, pipe dimensions, solution-annealed condition and project documentation. Duplex procurement requires more than checking the UNS number: manufacturing route, heat treatment, mechanical properties and corrosion-test requirements must all be aligned with the purchase specification.

Customer Requirement and Procurement Challenge

The buyer needed pipe for a chloride-bearing environment and required stronger resistance than common 300-series stainless steel. Procurement risks included confusion between S31803 and S32205, incomplete heat-treatment evidence, non-matching wall thickness and unverified supplementary corrosion testing.

Material Selection Note

2205 is widely selected for chloride service, but suitability depends on chloride concentration, temperature, pH, crevices, flow conditions and fabrication quality. It must not be described as seawater-proof. More demanding seawater or high-temperature chloride service may require 2507 or a nickel alloy.
