As of 11 August 2026, Shaanxi Shangyou Stainless Steel Co., Ltd. recommends that buyers separate stainless steel quotation inputs instead of treating a commodity headline as the finished-product price. Nickel remains an important external reference for austenitic grades, while molybdenum exposure makes 316L pricing behave differently from 304L. Regional mills and service centers may use grade-specific alloy-surcharge methods based on different calculation periods. Base price, scrap and ferroalloy inputs, energy, conversion, thickness extras, yield and local availability also affect the material component of a quotation.
304/304L and 316/316L have different alloy chemistry, and 316L's molybdenum addition is one reason the two grade families should not be priced with one flat percentage. Product form matters as well: a coil offer, heavy plate, small-diameter seamless pipe and precision ground bar have different manufacturing and yield structures. Small quantities, unusual thicknesses, tight tolerances, polished surfaces, cut-to-size work, special testing and third-party hold points can add costs that are unrelated to the daily nickel reference. Freight and packing then change the delivered comparison again.
Buyers should submit the same grade, product standard, dimensions, surface or condition, quantity, processing, inspection documents, destination and Incoterm to every shortlisted supplier. Ask for the quotation date, currency, unit, validity period, tax basis, packing basis and estimated shipment window. Separate material, processing, testing and freight where practical. LME official prices are daily reference prices for physically delivered metals, while producer alloy surcharges are product- and region-specific; neither should be presented as a guaranteed finished stainless steel price. Shangyou confirms the commercial basis in the issued quotation.
CTA: Send the grade, product form, dimensions, quantity, processing and destination for a time-stamped 304 or 316L quotation.
