The audit can be completed on site, through a remote document review or with a combined approach. Before the meeting, both parties agree the product scope, project requirements, checklist, agenda, attendees, photography rules and confidentiality boundaries. This keeps the review focused on the processes relevant to the customer's supply risk instead of treating a short visit as proof of every company activity.

The audit can cover inquiry and purchase-order control, supplier and incoming-material records, warehouse identification, heat-number continuity, processing instructions, equipment status, inspection records, nonconformance handling, document release and export packing. During the site walk, the customer can review the actual warehouse, processing and inspection areas related to the intended product.
