ASTM A376 was originally developed for piping in central stations of electric-power generating thermal plants. TP304H is a modification of standard TP304 grade with controlled higher carbon content (0.04-0.10% vs 0.08% maximum for TP304), specifically intended for service at temperatures where creep and stress rupture properties are important. The higher carbon content provides improved high temperature strength through carbide precipitation strengthening during service. TP304H maintains excellent oxidation resistance up to approximately 800°C, with practical service temperature typically up to 650°C for long-term creep design. All pipe is furnished in the solution annealed condition with minimum solution treatment temperature of 1900°F [1040°C].
