Shaanxi Shangyou Stainless Steel Co., Ltd. supplies ASTM A312 253MA stainless steel seamless pipe for global distributors, EPC contractors, power plant engineers and project procurement teams. Manufactured to ASTM A312/A312M and ASME SA312 standards, 253MA seamless pipe delivers exceptional high temperature oxidation resistance, creep strength and structural stability for furnace, heat exchanger and boiler applications.
253MA (UNS S30815, EN 1.4835) is an austenitic chromium-nickel steel alloyed with nitrogen and rare earth metals (primarily cerium Ce). Despite its lean nickel content, it offers an outstanding combination of creep strength and high resistance to oxidation, sulphidation and erosion/abrasion at extremely high temperatures, making it more economical than most heat resistant alloys. The rare earth metals (Ce) combine with silicon to provide superior oxidation resistance up to 1150°C, while nitrogen and carbon contribute to creep rupture strength comparable to some nickel-based alloys. This grade can replace more expensive 310/310S (25Cr-20Ni) and certain nickel alloys in high temperature service.

ASTM A312 253MA seamless pipe is specified for high temperature service up to 1150°C where standard heat resistant grades are inadequate.
Typical applications include:
When selecting 253MA seamless pipe, buyers should consider:
Oxidation Resistance: The combination of rare earth metals (Ce) and silicon provides exceptional resistance to isothermal and cyclic oxidation up to 1150°C. This is a key advantage over standard 310/310S, which can form brittle sigma phase during long-term exposure at 650-980°C.
Creep Strength: Above approximately 550°C, design calculations should be based on creep rupture strength rather than proof strength. At 600°C, 253MA provides 82 MPa creep rupture strength at 100,000 hours.
Corrosion Resistance: 253MA offers good resistance to sulphidation and erosion/abrasion at high temperatures. The lean nickel content (10-12%) provides some advantage in reducing sulphide atmospheres compared to high nickel alloys.
Economic Advantage: With lower nickel content than 310S (11% vs 20%), 253MA offers approximately 30% lower raw material cost while providing comparable or superior high temperature performance. It is a cost-effective alternative to 310/310S and certain nickel alloys.
ASTM A312 253MA seamless pipes are packed with export-standard protection including plastic wrapping, edge protection, steel strapping and wooden cases or steel frames. Packaging can be adjusted according to pipe size, weight and shipping requirements.
Quality documents may include MTC 3.1, inspection reports, packing lists and other agreed certificates. PMI/OES can verify Cr, Ni, Si, N content, but cerium content requires specialized laboratory analysis. Refer to MTC for complete verification.
For quality evaluation, customers should provide heat number, package identification, inspection records and product photos. Technical solutions will be provided according to specifications and contract requirements.
1. What is ASTM A312 253MA?
ASTM A312 253MA is a rare earth metal (cerium) and nitrogen-alloyed austenitic stainless steel seamless pipe (UNS S30815, EN 1.4835) with exceptional high temperature oxidation resistance and creep strength.
2. What is the maximum service temperature for 253MA?
253MA provides oxidation resistance up to approximately 1150°C (2100°F). For long-term creep applications, design parameters are critical above 550°C.
3. What is the difference between 253MA and 310/310S?
253MA offers 20% higher room/high temperature tensile strength than 310S with approximately 30% lower raw material cost (lower Ni content). It also has better structural stability (less sigma phase precipitation) at 650-980°C.
4. What does the rare earth addition provide?
Cerium (Ce) and silicon combine to provide superior oxidation resistance at high temperatures. Rare earth oxides also contribute to creep rupture strength comparable to some nickel-based alloys.
5. What are the mechanical properties of 253MA?
Minimum tensile strength 600 MPa, yield strength 310 MPa, elongation 40%. At 600°C, tensile strength minimum is 340 MPa.
6. Can 253MA be welded?
Yes. 253MA has good weldability with standard fusion welding methods.
7. What documents are provided with delivery?
Typical documents include MTC 3.1, inspection reports, packing list, and heat number traceability for all material supplied.
