Shaanxi Shangyou Stainless Steel Co., Ltd. supplies ASTM A240 253MA stainless steel plate for global distributors, fabricators, equipment manufacturers, and EPC contractors requiring high-temperature strength and oxidation resistance. Produced to ASTM A240/A240M as UNS S30815 (also equivalent to EN 1.4835, X9CrNiSiNCe21-11-2, and SS 2368), this heat-resistant austenitic stainless steel is specifically engineered for sustained elevated-temperature service where creep performance is critical.
253MA is a proprietary grade originally developed by Outokumpu, combining excellent high-temperature properties with cost-effectiveness. The alloy contains 20-22% chromium, 10-12% nickel, 1.4-2.0% silicon, 0.14-0.20% nitrogen, and 0.03-0.08% cerium. The addition of nitrogen provides enhanced creep strength, while the rare earth metal cerium, in combination with silicon, forms a highly adherent and stable oxide layer that provides excellent resistance to isothermal and cyclic oxidation up to 2100°F (1150°C). The relatively low nickel content gives 253MA an advantage in reducing sulphide atmospheres compared to high nickel alloys and Grade 310.

ASTM A240 253MA stainless steel plate is specified for high-temperature structural and pressure-containing applications requiring exceptional creep strength and oxidation resistance.
Typical applications include:
Key selection considerations: 253MA offers higher creep strength than 310S at temperatures above 1800°F, while providing comparable oxidation resistance up to 2100°F. The lower nickel content (10-12% vs 19-22% in 310S) makes it a cost-effective alternative. The alloy performs well in oxidizing sulfur-containing atmospheres but is not recommended for reducing sulfur environments. Caution should be exercised in the 1150-1600°F range where sigma phase embrittlement may occur; this is not a concern at operating temperature, but impact should be avoided at room temperature. Not recommended for wet corrosion applications.
Shangyou Stainless Steel provides value-added processing including cut-to-length, slitting, polishing, laser cutting, bending and forming, and protective film application.
All plates are packed with export-standard protection including protective paper between sheets, edge protection, steel strapping, waterproof wrapping, and wooden pallets or steel frames.
Quality documents include MTC 3.1, inspection reports, packing list, and heat number traceability. Third-party inspection (SGS, TUV, BV) can be arranged upon request.
1. What is 253MA stainless steel?
253MA (UNS S30815, EN 1.4835) is a heat-resistant austenitic stainless steel alloyed with nitrogen and rare earth metals (cerium). It offers high creep strength and excellent oxidation resistance up to 2100°F (1150°C).
2. What is the difference between 253MA and 310S?
253MA has lower nickel content (10-12% vs 19-22%) and higher creep strength above 1800°F. It offers similar oxidation resistance to 310S but at a lower cost. 253MA is the preferred choice for applications requiring high creep strength and oxidation resistance up to 2100°F.
3. What is the maximum service temperature for 253MA?
253MA offers excellent oxidation resistance up to 2100°F (1150°C) in continuous service and good resistance to cyclic oxidation.
4. What is the EN equivalent for 253MA?
EN 1.4835 (X9CrNiSiNCe21-11-2) is the European equivalent for UNS S30815 / 253MA.
5. What are the key alloying elements in 253MA?
Chromium 20-22% provides oxidation resistance; nickel 10-12% stabilizes the austenitic structure; silicon and cerium enhance oxidation resistance and oxide adhesion; nitrogen provides creep strength.
6. What thickness ranges are available for 253MA plate?
Cold rolled sheet from 0.3mm to 6.0mm; hot rolled plate from 3.0mm to 200mm. Heavier thicknesses available on request.
7. Is 253MA stainless steel magnetic?
253MA is fully austenitic and non-magnetic in the annealed condition.
8. Can 253MA be welded?
Yes. 253MA offers good weldability by standard methods, with excellent resistance to high temperature corrosion. No post-weld heat treatment is required for most applications.
9. What documents are provided with delivery?
MTC 3.1, inspection reports, packing list, and heat number traceability.
10. What are typical applications for 253MA?
Furnace components, petrochemical tube hangers, power generation equipment, heat exchangers, radiant tubes, thermal oxidizers, and high-temperature structural parts.
