Plate fabrication provides flexibility in leg width, thickness and special-alloy selection. It is often suitable for low-volume large sections, heavy supports and grades that are not routinely available as rolled angles.
The order must identify the manufacturing route. A press-brake-formed angle, welded angle and laser-fused angle do not have identical corner geometry, residual stress, dimensional behaviour or certification route.
If the angle is formed from certified plate, the parent material may comply with a flat-product standard rather than the finished angle automatically complying with ASTM A276. Finished-product inspection and drawing tolerances must therefore be agreed separately.
Applications include offshore modules, pressure-equipment supports, large skids, chemical structures, furnace frames and desalination systems.
| Buyer Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Can any size be fabricated? | Feasibility depends on plate thickness, leg width and equipment capacity. |
| Can unequal legs be produced? | Yes. |
| Which grades are available? | Common and special grades can be reviewed. |
| Is tooling required? | It depends on the forming method. |
| Can sharp corners be produced? | Laser fusion or welding may be considered. |
| Can one prototype be supplied? | It may be possible, subject to setup cost. |
| Is PMI available? | Yes. |
| Can NDT be performed? | Yes, where relevant. |
| What drawing format is accepted? | PDF, DWG and DXF can be reviewed. |
| Is ASTM A276 automatically applicable? | No; compliance depends on the completed product route. |
