Shaanxi Shangyou Stainless Steel Co., Ltd. supplies bright-drawn 316L stainless steel fine wire for precision industrial components where small diameter, consistent tolerance, clean surface and stable spool payoff are critical. This page is positioned as industrial fine wire, not medical implant wire. Buyers should provide the exact diameter, tolerance, mechanical condition, spool dimensions, continuous-length requirement and application drawing.

This product page is positioned under ASTM A580/A580M as general reference; customer precision drawing may govern. The standard role must match the actual product function. General wire, spring wire, cold-heading wire, weaving wire and rope wire are not interchangeable standard categories. When a customer drawing introduces tighter diameter, tensile, surface, coil or spool requirements, those project requirements should be added to the purchase specification.
Reference chemistry for 316L / UNS S31603 is shown for grade identification. Contract chemistry and permitted variation must follow the ordered specification and MTC.
| Element | wt.% | Element | wt.% |
|---|---|---|---|
| C | ≤0.03 | Cr | 16.0-18.0 |
| Ni | 10.0-14.0 | Mo | 2.0-3.0 |
| Mn | ≤2.00 | Si | ≤1.00 |
| P | ≤0.045 | S | ≤0.030 |
| N | ≤0.10 |
Mechanical properties depend on final reduction, diameter and ordered condition. For very fine wire, the customer's drawing may govern tighter tensile, elongation, straightness or surface requirements than a general wire standard.
| Parameter | Procurement Rule |
|---|---|
| Tensile Strength | Confirm by grade + diameter + delivery condition + governing standard. Do not use one grade-wide value. |
| Elongation / Ductility | Condition and diameter dependent; specify when forming or spring performance requires it. |
| Hardness | Not always the controlling wire acceptance parameter; use only when required by the standard or drawing. |
| Diameter Tolerance | Specify numeric tolerance; tighter tolerances require route and inspection confirmation. |
| Magnetic Response | Austenitic grades can become more magnetic after cold work; precipitation-hardening grades depend on condition. |
316L is a useful option where precision wire needs improved pitting resistance over 304 in many environments, but it should not automatically be marketed as medical grade. Medical wire may require special melt practice, cleanliness, inclusion control, dimensional validation and regulatory documentation that are outside a general industrial fine-wire offer.
Clean feed material → multi-stage precision drawing → intermediate annealing when needed → final fine drawing → cleaning/bright finishing → precision spooling → laser/micrometer diameter inspection → mechanical/surface checks → protected packing.

Send your production specification: grade / standard, wire diameter and tolerance, condition or target mechanical properties, surface or coating, coil/spool/reel dimensions, unit weight, quantity, inspection documents, end use and destination port. Shangyou will review the applicable wire standard, production route, inspection plan and export packing before quotation.
1. What is meant by fine stainless steel wire?
Fine wire generally refers to small-diameter precision wire where diameter tolerance, surface cleanliness, spool winding and consistent payoff are important. The exact diameter range should be defined by the supplier's actual production capability.
2. Why use 316L for precision fine wire?
316L combines low carbon with molybdenum-containing austenitic chemistry. It is commonly selected when improved pitting resistance relative to 304 is helpful and the product still requires good ductility and precision drawing.
3. Is ASTM A580 sufficient for every fine-wire application?
ASTM A580 can serve as a general wire standard, but very fine precision applications may need additional customer drawing requirements for tolerance, surface, cleanliness, spool and mechanical properties.
4. Can bright-drawn surface be supplied?
Yes, where supported by the selected drawing route. For precision applications, define acceptable scratches, lubricant residue, oxidation and surface appearance rather than relying only on the word 'bright'.
5. Can the wire be supplied on precision spools?
Yes. Specify flange diameter, barrel diameter, traverse width, winding direction, payoff requirement and unit weight so the spool matches the customer's equipment.
6. Can 316L fine wire be used as medical implant wire?
Do not assume so. Medical implant wire can require special melt practice, cleanliness, inclusion control, dimensions, documentation and regulatory qualification. This page is for industrial fine wire unless medical-grade capability is separately confirmed.
7. How tight can diameter tolerance be?
Tolerance depends on nominal diameter, drawing route, inspection method and volume. Send the actual tolerance required by the component drawing for feasibility review.
8. Can you provide continuous lengths?
Continuous-length requirements can be quoted. State the minimum acceptable length, weld prohibition if applicable, spool size and package weight before production.
9. What testing is recommended?
Diameter inspection, tensile properties, surface inspection, chemistry and winding quality are common. Additional cleanliness, straightness or customer-specific tests should be defined by the application.
10. What should be included in the RFQ?
Provide 316L/S31603, standard or drawing, diameter and tolerance, target mechanical condition, surface, spool dimensions, continuous-length requirement, quantity, inspection documents, end use and destination.
