430 is a chromium ferritic stainless grade often selected for visible appliance parts, automotive trim and general components where moderate corrosion resistance and magnetic response are useful. It does not contain the nickel level typical of 304 austenitic stainless, which changes both cost structure and material behavior.
For visible BA applications, surface consistency, scratches, coil handling and protective packaging deserve the same attention as chemistry. For forming applications, the requested geometry and bend direction should be reviewed because ferritic strip does not behave identically to 304 or 301.
430 should not be substituted for 316L in aggressive chloride or chemical environments. It is also not selected for high cold-work spring strength in the same way as 301. Use 430 where the corrosion environment is appropriate and magnetic/ferritic behavior, appearance or cost-performance is part of the design basis.
| Parameter | Specification / Guidance |
|---|---|
| Slitting / Cutting | Precision slitting, cut-to-width and rewinding according to grade, gauge and coil configuration. |
| Edge Processing | As-slit, deburred or conditioned edge where the requested dimensions and application allow. |
| Testing | Dimensional inspection, surface inspection, hardness/mechanical checks as specified; PMI or third-party inspection can be arranged where appropriate. |
| Documentation | MTC / EN 10204 3.1 when specified; dimensional, surface and hardness reports; PMI available where technically appropriate. |
| Packing | Moisture-proof paper or film, edge protection, steel strapping and export pallet/wooden case as required. Coil eye orientation and maximum package weight can be agreed before shipment. |
| Price Basis | Price is determined by grade, thickness, width, temper/hardness, surface, tolerance, edge condition, coil configuration, order quantity, inspection and packing requirements, plus current stainless raw-material/alloy costs. |
| Supply Status | Stock, regular production or made-to-order depending on grade, dimensions, temper, finish and inspection requirements. |
Send 430 thickness * width, BA or other finish, forming requirement, edge, tolerance, coil ID and quantity. For appearance-critical parts, include surface acceptance requirements or reference samples.
Yes. 430 is ferritic stainless steel and is normally magnetic.
No. 430 is ferritic while 304 is austenitic; they differ in composition, corrosion behavior, forming response and magnetic properties.
Yes, BA is a common requested appearance for 430 strip where the production route allows.
It is used for many trim and decorative applications, but the exact environment and forming requirement should be checked.
It is generally not selected for aggressive marine chloride exposure; higher-alloy grades may be needed.
Yes, custom slitting can be quoted subject to thickness, width and edge requirements.
Protective film may be discussed for appearance-critical surfaces if it is compatible with downstream processing.
As-slit, deburred and other conditioned edge options can be evaluated.
Define surface appearance, scratch acceptance, film requirement, grain/visual direction if relevant and packing method.
Yes, MTC 3.1 can be specified for traceability and chemistry/mechanical documentation.
