Product Description
Ultra Thin Stainless Steel Strip for Precision Stamping Components

Shaanxi Shangyou Stainless Steel Co., Ltd. supplies ultra thin stainless steel strip for precision stampings, shims, electronic parts and small formed components. At thin gauges, handling, flatness, burr, width stability, coil build and surface protection become increasingly important, so the order should define more than nominal thickness alone.

Standards & Material Identification
Parameter Specification / Guidance
Grade / UNS / EN Grade dependent: 301, 304, 316L and others by RFQ
Applicable Standards ASTM A240/A240M or ASTM A666/A666M as applicable; ASTM A480/A480M; EN 10088-2; ISO 9445-1/-2 depending whether the material is mill narrow strip or slit from wide strip.
Inspection Documents MTC / EN 10204 3.1 when specified; dimensional, surface and hardness reports; PMI available where technically appropriate.
Why Ultra-Thin Strip Needs a Different Quality Plan

As thickness decreases, small variations in edge condition, coil tension, surface damage or flatness can have a larger effect on feeding and stamping. Buyers should state the minimum and maximum allowable gauge, width tolerance, burr, camber/flatness and acceptable surface defects.

Packaging must prevent edge crushing and telescoping during transport. Narrow ultra-thin coils may require additional spacers, side protection or dedicated wooden-case packing depending on coil diameter and weight.

Material Selection Boundary

Do not choose an ultra-thin grade only by availability. 301 may be appropriate for elastic components, 304 for general precision forming, and 316L for improved corrosion resistance, but the required temper can change forming behavior significantly. Very thin material also requires realistic tolerance negotiation rather than copying a tolerance from thicker coil.

Typical Applications
  • Precision shims
  • Electronic and connector components
  • Small stampings
  • Sensor and instrument parts
  • Thin spring or elastic parts where the specified temper is suitable
Processing, Inspection & Packing
Parameter Specification / Guidance
Slitting / Cutting Precision slitting, cut-to-width and rewinding according to grade, gauge and coil configuration.
Edge Processing As-slit, deburred or conditioned edge where the requested dimensions and application allow.
Testing Dimensional inspection, surface inspection, hardness/mechanical checks as specified; PMI or third-party inspection can be arranged where appropriate.
Documentation MTC / EN 10204 3.1 when specified; dimensional, surface and hardness reports; PMI available where technically appropriate.
Packing Moisture-proof paper or film, edge protection, steel strapping and export pallet/wooden case as required. Coil eye orientation and maximum package weight can be agreed before shipment.
Price Basis Price is determined by grade, thickness, width, temper/hardness, surface, tolerance, edge condition, coil configuration, order quantity, inspection and packing requirements, plus current stainless raw-material/alloy costs.
Supply Status Stock, regular production or made-to-order depending on grade, dimensions, temper, finish and inspection requirements.

Send minimum/maximum thickness, width, tolerance, grade, temper, surface, burr, flatness/camber, coil ID and monthly quantity. For ultra-thin projects, a drawing or sample requirement is strongly recommended.

FAQ

1. What thickness is considered ultra thin?

There is no single universal boundary; this page focuses on strip where thin-gauge handling and precision control are more demanding than ordinary slit coil.

2. Can you supply 0.1 mm stainless strip?

0.1 mm can be evaluated subject to grade, temper, width, surface and tolerance.

3. Can you supply 0.05 mm strip?

Very thin gauges require feasibility confirmation for the exact width, grade, temper and tolerance.

4. Why is flatness important for thin strip?

Thin material is more sensitive to coil set, waviness and feeding instability in precision equipment.

5. Can burr be minimized?

Burr can be controlled through slitting setup and optional edge processing, but a specific limit should be agreed in the RFQ.

6. Is BA finish available for ultra-thin strip?

It may be available depending on grade, thickness and production route.

7. How is thin strip protected in transit?

Coils are protected from moisture, scratches and edge damage with suitable wrapping, spacers/edge protection and rigid export packing.

8. Can ultra-thin strip be full hard?

For suitable grades, cold-worked conditions can be supplied, but the achievable combination of thin gauge, width and mechanical properties must be confirmed.

9. What inspection is recommended?

Thickness mapping/sampling, width, burr, surface and coil condition should be included when these affect the downstream process.

10. What is the best RFQ format?

Provide a drawing or specification with grade, thickness range, width, temper/mechanical properties, edge, surface, coil size and quantity.
