Product Description

Nickel Alloy 800HT | UNS N08811 | 1.4959 | Incoloy 800HT

Shaanxi Shangyou Stainless Steel Co., Ltd. supplies Nickel Alloy 800HT, also known as Incoloy 800HT, identified as UNS N08811 and Werkstoff 1.4959, in plate, sheet, strip, round bar, rod, seamless and welded tubing, pipe, and forging forms. Our Alloy 800HT products can be supplied according to ASTM B409 / ASME SB-409 for plate, sheet and strip; ASTM B408 / ASME SB-408 for bar and wire; ASTM B407 / ASME SB-407 for seamless pipe and tube; and ASTM B564 / ASME SB-564 for forgings.

Nickel Alloy 800HT is the highest-performance member of the 800 series nickel-iron-chromium alloy family. It is developed from Alloy 800H (UNS N08810) through tighter control of aluminum (Al) and titanium (Ti) content, with a prescribed Al+Ti total range of 0.85-1.20%. Combined with a high-temperature solution annealing treatment producing an average grain size of ASTM 5 or coarser, this controlled chemistry delivers the highest creep rupture strength in the 800 series, particularly at temperatures above 700°C (1290°F). The alloy utilizes a composite strengthening mechanism of coarse austenitic grains, grain boundary carbide pinning, and fine γ' phase (Ni3(Al,Ti)) precipitation within grains.

Heat Treatment Conditions
Solution Annealed (High Temperature)

Alloy 800HT receives a high-temperature solution annealing treatment at approximately 1,120°C (2,050°F) followed by rapid cooling. This treatment produces an average grain size of ASTM 5 or coarser, which is essential for achieving the alloy's highest creep and rupture strength at temperatures above 700°C. The precise control of Al+Ti content (0.85-1.20%) combined with the coarse-grained microstructure gives 800HT its superior high-temperature properties.

Creep Property Distinction

Unlike standard Alloy 800 (recommended for service below 600°C), Alloy 800HT is specifically designed for applications requiring maximum creep rupture strength above 700°C. For applications involving frequent temperature excursions below 700°C, Alloy 800H is recommended to avoid ductility loss from γ' precipitation.

Corrosion Resistance and Selection Limits

Alloy 800HT provides excellent resistance to high-temperature corrosion, oxidation, and carburization.

Key Corrosion Characteristics:
  • Excellent oxidation resistance up to approximately 1,100°C (2,010°F)
  • Superior resistance to carburization in high-temperature carbon-rich atmospheres, far superior to 310S stainless steel
  • Good resistance to nitriding and sulfur-containing atmospheres
  • Resistance to alternating oxidizing and reducing conditions
  • Good chloride stress-corrosion cracking resistance due to high nickel content
  • Metallurgical stability during prolonged high-temperature service
Selection Considerations:
  • For optimal creep performance, use above 700°C; for frequent thermal cycling below this temperature, consider Alloy 800H instead
  • Not designed for aqueous strong acid service (inadequate pitting resistance due to no molybdenum)
  • For higher oxidation requirements above 1,100°C, consider INCONEL 617 or Haynes 282
  • Final selection must consider the specific medium, temperature, and exposure conditions
Typical Applications
  • Chemical and Petrochemical Processing: Ethylene furnace quench boilers, hydrocarbon cracking equipment, steam/hydrocarbon reformers
  • Petroleum Refining: Hydrodealkylation units, reformer tubing, valves and fittings
  • Power Generation: Steam superheaters, high-temperature heat exchangers, superheater and reheater tubing
  • Thermal Processing: Industrial furnace radiant tubes, muffles, retorts, heat-treating fixtures
  • Waste Incineration: Combustion chamber components

Frequently Asked Questions
1.  What is Nickel Alloy 800HT?

Nickel Alloy 800HT (UNS N08811), also known as Incoloy 800HT, is the highest-performance nickel-iron-chromium alloy in the 800 series, with tightly controlled Al+Ti content (0.85-1.20%) for maximum creep rupture strength above 700°C.

2. What are the UNS and EN numbers for Alloy 800HT?
The UNS designation is N08811; the European Werkstoff number is 1.4959; the EN material name is X8NiCrAlTi32-21.
3. Which standards apply to Alloy 800HT plate and bar?
ASTM B409 / ASME SB-409 applies to plate, sheet and strip; ASTM B408 / ASME SB-408 applies to bar, rod and wire.
4. Which standards apply to Alloy 800HT tubing and pipe?
ASTM B407 / ASME SB-407 applies to seamless pipe and tube; ASTM B515 / ASME SB-515 applies to welded tube.
5. What is the difference between Alloy 800H and Alloy 800HT?
Both have the same carbon range (0.05-0.10%), but 800HT has tighter controls on Al and Ti with a prescribed Al+Ti total of 0.85-1.20%, giving it higher creep rupture strength above 700°C.
6. What is the maximum service temperature for Alloy 800HT?
Alloy 800HT offers excellent oxidation resistance up to approximately 1,100°C (2,010°F) and is designed for creep applications above 700°C.
7. What environments does Alloy 800HT resist?
It resists oxidation, carburization, nitriding, alternating oxidizing/reducing atmospheres, and sulfur-containing environments at high temperatures.
8. Why is Alloy 800HT not recommended for service below 700°C?
Below 700°C, gamma prime (γ') precipitates combined with loss of ductility. For applications with frequent temperature excursions below 700°C, Alloy 800H is recommended.
